Millard West grabbed an early lead on its way to an 8-4 victory over Papillion-LaVista South on Tuesday. Millard West scored on a single by Jackson Wright in the first inning, a single by Max Anderson in the second inning, a single by Wright in the second inning, and a single by Seth Claybourne in the second inning.
The Wildcats earned the victory despite allowing Papillion-LaVista South to score three runs in the fourth inning. Papillion-LaVista South big bats were led by Nate Denne, Will Swanson, and Jack Bland, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Millard West knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning, when Wright singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
The Wildcats pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Anderson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Wright singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, and Claybourne singled on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.
Keyton Barnes was the winning pitcher for Millard West. He allowed six hits and four runs over three innings, striking out two. Dalton Glenn and Xander Hay entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Glenn recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for Millard West.
Lane Harris took the loss for Papillion-LaVista South. He lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing five hits and five runs while striking out one.
Millard West totaled ten hits in the game. Wright and Anderson all had multiple hits for Millard West Wildcats. Anderson and Wright each collected two hits to lead the Wildcats.
Harris led Papillion-LaVista South with two hits in three at bats.
