It was a rocky start for the boys soccer team on a very windy night in Bellevue. The team couldn’t find any consistency in their attack and were forced to defend early and often after frequent turnovers. It was against the run of play that the Wildcats would actually get an early goal on a ball over the top to sophomore Caden Tubaugh who blasted a shot from 15 yards out on a wide angle that caught a deflection and found the back of the net 17 minutes into the game. The boys held the lead for 15 minutes before conceding the first goal off a free kick into the box that was deflected with a header and into the net. With 6 minutes to go Bellevue West added another on a crossing ball to the back post that was headed back across and into the goal by an attacker. Down 2-1 at half and with a lot to play for in the second half the boys created a few good scoring chances but couldn’t find the answers and eventually conceded the third and final goal with 15 minutes to play. For the first time this season the boys lost by 2 or more goals and racked up a number of injuries along the way. The toughest tests lay ahead as some of the strongest opponents of the season make up the final 6 regular season matches. With plenty to prove and a season to save, it’s time to see what this team is truly made of.
