It was another solid match for the Wildcats against a Skutt team determined to try and force the Wildcats to play out of its comfort zone. The Wildcats stayed true to their strengths and ultimately prevailed in what was an exciting and very physical match. The Skyhawks got on the board in the first minute on a ball that hung in the wind and slipped under the bar. They continued to press the Wildcats, but slowly and surely, the Wildcats started to play more of their style and equalized the match off a beautiful centering ball from Morgan Rhodes to Katie Stoneburner who calmly one-touched and slammed the ball in the back of the net in the 33rd minute. The high-pressing style of the Skyhawks continued to disrupt the Wildcat attack, but staying true to form, the Wildcats began to build momentum in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts in the 32nd minute of the second half. Maddie Augustine received a ball in the middle of the field, made a nifty turn and shielded the defender, which allowed her to switch the play to the weak side and a streaking Jaiden Beecher who took a controlling touch and sent the ball to the back of the net for the lead and winning goal. The team will take the field again this week in the Metro Tournament and look to build on their 5-0 start to the season.
