The Millard West Boys soccer team wrapped up the week with their 3rd straight loss and their first home loss of the season after a 3-1 defeat to Millard North. North got on the board 1 minute into the game as the Wildcats fell asleep on the first corner kick of the game. It was the 3rd straight game conceding a goal on a defensive corner. 5 minutes later sophomore Daniel Gornell struck a freek kick into the back of the net to level the game. With 10 minutes left in the half North found another sloppy goal in front of the net, being the team that reacted first to a bouncing ball on the back post as the Wildcats were caught again watching. North led 2-1 at half and that’s all they needed. Despite the 30 mph wind at their back, an offensive set up and plenty of chances – nobody could find the composure or desire to take the game into their hands with balls being sprayed left, right and over the goal. With under a minute to play a series of defensive mis-steps led to the final irrelevant goal for North. At 2 wins and 4 losses, the boys find themselves in an unfamiliar position with their backs against the ropes and 30 days to fix this season. Gut check.
