Incredible night of drama on Senior night. The Wildcats started strong with an early goal from Senior Marco Rubio off a Riley Hackbart throw-in. Rubio played the half-volley back across the keeper and into the side netting for a big first goal and some good momentum. After a couple of goals were ruled off-side, Papio South stayed in the game and leveled with about 15 minutes to play and the match was 1-1 at half. The second half saw a fairly even match with a few chances for both sides. But with 8 minutes to play Junior Captain Andrew Hall slipped a ball bouncing around in the box past the keeper and the Wildcats looked to be closing in on a second win of the week. Papio South had other ideas and played a long ball into the box where they grabbed possesion in the dying moments of the game, a quick cut back and incredible shot and somehow it was 2-2 with 9 seconds left. Credit to Papio South to find a way with such little time left. Going scorless through two OTs meant Penalty Kicks. In what was one of the longest PK shootouts in program history (if the not the single longest), the Wildcats prevailed after 13 penalties and only one miss. Junior GK Sam Fedde came up with a huge save (and a goal of his own) to keep the Wildcats in the shootout on the 12th kick for PLVS. Then it was Junior Brock Schulz who placed the eventual game winner away from the spot. PLVS put the final kick over the bar in agonizing fashion and the match was over. Truly, this will be a senior night to remember. Thank you to seniors Jackson McGowan, Sergio Araya, Marco Rubio, Jacob Conway and Travis Fischer for leading the way.
