The Wildcats faced Papio for the District A-7 Championship on Thursday and walked away with a 3-0 victory and a ticket to Morrison Stadium on Monday.
Though the score was 0-0 at the half, the Wildcats offense was clicking and created numerous opportunities only to be denied by some quality goalkeeping by the PLV GK. The team came out on fire in the second half, again breaking down the Monarch defense with creative and purposeful play.
Leah Pugliese got the Wildcats on the board with a blast from about 25 yards out 9 minutes into the half and the Wildcats didn't stop there.
A through ball was played to Jaelyn Moody from
Madison Hutteger. Jaelynn chipped the ball and it rolled past the Monarch GK and over the goal line for the goal.
Madison Hutteger ensured that the officials would call it a goal by following her pass and blasting it through the net. Without seeing the film, it is believed that the linesman raised his flag after Moody's touch. Either way it was 2-0 with 25:45 left on the clock. Thirty seconds later,
Evie Goltl sent
Harper Knutsen another through ball. Knutsen took care of the rest and placed a ball right inside the post for the Wildcats 3rd goal.
While the entire team played excellent defense, a special nod goes out to those playing in the back line for minimizing Papio's chances:
Leah Pugliese,
Kennedy Moore,
Delaney Green,
Elle Leece, and
Alyse Aschebrook. Their efforts along with our 2 goalkeepers,
Addy Stephens and
Emma McGargill, all contributed to the shut out.
