Game Recap

The Huskies of Omaha Northwest visited the Wildcats on Tuesday night in a match up of Class A programs. The Wildcats got off to a slow start before controlling the game late in set 1 and pulling away for a 25-17 victory.

The second and third sets saw the Wildcats jump out to a commanding lead and finish with a sweep of the Huskies.

The Wildcat were led with a very balanced hitting .318% on the night.

Gabi Nordaker led the charge with 6 kills, followed by Hailey Peterson, Elise Gilroy, Bailey Wilson, and Jada Key with 5 kills each.

The offense was in tune thanks to the passing and defense of Maggie and Kenzie Sempeck along with Jordan McCormick. Bree Green set 15 assists while Syd Daniels added 10 assists.

The Varsity Wildcats are next up at the Millard North Invite this weekend, Sept. 8-9th starting at 4:00pm.

Reserve Wildcats dominated the Huskies 2-0

Meet Recap

The Wildcat JV boys tennis team fell short 3-6 to a tough Elkhorn South team during their season home opener. Winning singles for the Wildcats were Freshmen Tanner Klahn 8-5 & Palmer Wright 8-4 and Sophomore Spencer Selinger 8-5. Although all doubles combinations posted winning games during their match, the Storm overcame the Wildcats during this early outing. The JV boys will prepare to strengthen their dubs combinations to host Papio LaVista South on Thursday.

Wildcats Falls To Elkhorn South On Walkout:
A walk-off left Wildcats on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat to Elkhorn South on Tuesday. The game was tied at two with Elkhorn South batting in the bottom of the seventh when Molly Sindelar singled off of Hanna Cress, driving in one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Elkhorn South pitchers struck out five, while Wildcats sat down three. Wildcats took an early lead in the first inning. Adria Allen singled on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring one run. Lexie Black (2 hits) and Allen each drove in one run to lead Wildcats.

Leo Drives In Five As Millard West Wildcats JV Defeats Elkhart South: Millard West JV defeated Elkhorn South 10-1 on Tuesday thanks in part to Honnah Leo, who drove in five runners. As a team, The Wildcats had 13 hits. Leo had 3, Hanna Roberts, Sarah Feuker, and Emma Decker each had 2. Anna Billings, Ivy Collins, Reese Peterson, and Nicole Paulsen each followed with one. Anna Billings pitched the game for the Wildcats striking out 7.

The Wildcats took on the Gretna Dragons in the finals of the Heartland Crossroads Tournament. Gretna earlier in the day defeated Lincoln North Star and Columbus.
Millard West come out firing in the first set taking a lead of nearly 10 points before Gretna began battling back. The Wildcats took Set 1 with a score of 25-17

The Dragons came back and made set 2 a battle handing the Wildcats a 26-28 setback.

Millard West refocused and again took control of the match winning set 3 25-18. With the win the Wildcats were the 2017 Heartland Crossroads Tournament Champions for the first time since 2013.

Ashley Bush lead the charge posting 10 kills and hitting .219% McCormick was right behind with 9 kills hitting a blistering .421%

Defensively the cats were led by Libero Centeno with 10 digs.

JV Heartland Crossroads Tournament

Down the road at Millard West High School the JV portion of the HC Tournament was taking place. The JV cats swept the tournament and were crowned Champions for the 4th straight year. Scores of the Match were:

MW vs Columbus: 25-6, 25-15
MW vs Fremont: 25-12, 25-11

Game Recap

In a 2nd round battle at the Heartland Crossroads Tournament the Wildcats edged the Storm of Elkhorn South 2-1. After being down by as much as 5 in the first set the Wildcats come back on a late surge in game 1 before passing errors finished off the match.

Set 2 found Millard West getting down again early but responding in the late stages of the game. After taking a 4 point lead the Storm fought back to tie the match at 24 before a monstrous kill by Hailey Peterson finished the game.

In Set 3 both times came out firing with Elkhorn South taking a 4 point lead midway thru the last game. After even up the game at 18 a piece the Wildcats rattled off 7 straight points to take the game and match. With the win the Wildcats take on the Gretna Dragons in the Finals of the Tournament.

The Wildcats competed in the Heartland Crossroads Volleyball Invite over the weekend.
In Pool 2 Millard West began competition taking on the Tigers of Fremont High.
After a slow start the Wildcats got into gear and cruised to a 2-0 victory.
