Dear Wildcat Nation,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce my family and I to the Millard West High School community. I will be joining the Wildcats this fall as the director of athletics and activities. It is an honor and privilege to take over for Dr. Chris Loofe, whom I’ve known for many years and I wish him the best as he becomes the principal for the Kearney Bearcats. Here is a little of my background. I was a teacher at Millard West from 2008 to 2016. During that time I coached baseball for four years, coached softball for one year, and was an assistant activities director for four years under Dr. Loofe. For the past two years, I have served as the activities director for York High School in York, NE. I am joined in the move by my wife Katie, my daughter Kensley (6), and my son Kyler (2).
What I love about MWHS…
Millard West was a destination that I wanted to return to because of so many reasons. The culture is one of excellence and achievement. There is a singular focus from teachers, coaches, sponsors, and community members that sets student achievement and development as a priority. That can be seen across all activities from show choir to football and from AP chemistry to girls soccer. The staff is a mixture of eexperienced veterans (many of whom have been around since the beginning of MW) and extremely talented newer teachers that are always eager to learn and innovate in ways that help students.
Although it is considered a large school in the state of Nebraska, there are enough activities and opportunities for involvement that each student can connect with their own community within the building. The faculty and staff work incredibly hard to offer as many ways for students to engage as possible. Millard West and Millard Public Schools in general have always valued the benefits of extra and co-curricular activity involvement in the development of our young people.
I am looking forward to meeting with all of the coaches, sponsors, and many teachers in the coming months to learn more about the culture and traditions at Millard West. I plan to speak with many community members and parents as well in order to create an open dialog. The athletic booster club has already been a huge part of the transition and will continue to be a great partner along with all of the other parent groups. I am an advocate of providing the fans and supporters of Millard West with as many ways as possible to follow our students and teams and be informed of everything that is happening throughout the school year. This is why you should take the time to follow these accounts:
I want to wish everyone a happy and safe summer vacation. I look forward to seeing many of you around the building and at events (or HyVee, Scooters, etc.). Please do not hesitate to stop and introduce yourself.
